CARLSBAD, Calif., Jul 10, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Life Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:LIFE), a provider of innovative
life science solutions, announced today the release of its 2008 Global
Citizenship Report.
The report provides an update on Life Technologies' philanthropic
endeavors, ethical policies and environmental sustainability efforts in
2008, which are an integral part of Life Technologies' overall mission
to shape biological discovery and ultimately improve life.
"From reducing water and energy consumption at Life Technologies'
facilities around the world, to giving back to our communities during
our annual Global Volunteer Day, we are deeply committed to being
exemplary corporate citizens," said Greg Lucier, Chairman and CEO of
Life Technologies. "Minimizing our impact on the environment, expanding
our philanthropic efforts, and maintaining high ethical standards are
critical for us to achieve our mission of shaping discovery and
improving life."
Major global citizenship efforts detailed in the report include:
-
Reducing energy use by 32 percent since 2004, saving more than $10
million in energy costs and reducing CO2 emissions by an
estimated 700 tons annually.

Reducing water consumption by 10 percent from 2004-2008 and
implementing a recycled water system for landscaping at the Life
Technologies' Carlsbad headquarters that saves more than 700,000

30 percent reduction in polystyrene from cold-storage products, while
using lightweight foil packaging instead of corrugated kit boxes
resulting in an 87 percent reduction in material usage.
